At Maxim Brewery, we brew a core range of six excellent cask beers which are available to enjoy all year round.
Double Maxim 4.7% ABV
- Now the only original Brown Ale still brewed in the North East of England
- It delivers a mouth of full and rounded flavour that is well balanced and smooth and leaves a pleasant and lingering slightly sweet aftertaste
- Roger Protz describes it as ‘An undoubted classic. It is a fine example of a North East brown ale. It is a good balance of ripe grain and spicy hops, with a long bittersweet finish’
- Available in cask and 500ml bottle, 8 bottles per case and 140 cases per pallet
- Bottled to BRC global standards
Maximus 6.0% ABV
- Double Maxim’s ‘Big Brother’ and a multi award winner
- A strong premium ale brewed with a hint of Demerara sugars
- Dark ruby in colour, Maximus has a sweet liquorice taste that is warming and easy to drink. Beware of its underlying strength
- A National Beer challenge winner 2007; BBI Gold Medal Winner 2015; SIBA Silver Medal Winner 2015; CAMRA bronze award 2015 and North East Champion Bottled Beer 2016, Society of Independent Brewers
- Available in cask and 500ml bottle, 12 bottles per case and 80 cases per pallet

Samson 4.0% ABV
- Samson is brewed to a traditional recipe using only the finest Maris Otter malt, flavoured with a blend of special Crystal malt
- English Golding hops are used exclusively in the brew and also for dry hopping in the cask
- The unique final blend of flavour, bitterness and ‘mouth feel’ combine to produce an exceptionally balanced chestnut brown beer for any occasion

Wards Best Bitter 4.0% ABV
- Wards Brewery in Sheffield can trace its roots back to 1840 when William Roper and John Kirby began brewing at the Sheaf Brewery. The Company expanded with financial assistance from Septimus Henry Ward in 1876 and carried his name ever since
- The brewing of Wards Best Bitter follows a unique process in order to start a slow secondary fermentation which continues until the beer matures to perfection
- Initial subtle aroma hop overtones compliment the taste of this malty, very full flavoured and Tawny Copper traditional Yorkshire bitter ale
- A perfectly balanced blend of toasted biscuit and mellow citrus combine sublimely with the special Demerara and slightly mineral background, remaining on the palate long after tasting

Lambton’s Cask Ale 3.8% ABV
- Carefully crafted to blend the finest pale malt with Willamette and American Citra hops, this light golden yellow session ale gives a pleasant herbal blackcurrant bitterness with a tropical fruit flavour aroma
- Behind its deceptively light appearance lies a depth of flavour which will appeal to any connoisseur of fine ale
- Available in cask only
Swedish Blonde 4.2% ABV
- Named after Maxim Brewery’s own Anna Goransdotter-Bell, a relatively new beer that has become a favourite for our customers
- This refreshing pale ale is brewed with first Gold and Cascade hops to give a refreshing and well balanced blonde beer with orange and grapefruit flavours
- Available in a 500ml bottle, craft keg and cask
Craft Keg and Bottled Beers
Our SAMSON SMOOTH creamflow keg beer and our SWEDISH BLONDE keg beer are now available to bars and restaurants across the North East.
Our range of craft bottled beers can be found in selected outlets across the North East. If you wish to try these brews at home, they are also available to buy in cases of 12 x 500ml bottles direct from the Maxim Brewery during office hours Tuesday to Friday.
Samson Smooth 4.0 ABV
- Traditional and historic beer brewed in the late 1800’s.
- Now modernised as a creamflow keg beer served on mixed gas to give a smooth creamy bitterness that is easy to drink.
- Made with all English Malt and Hops and served in all the bars at Sunderland AFC.
Swedish Blonde 4.2% ABV
- Brewed to the same recipe as our very popular cask beer, this craft keg has been filtered and filled in kegs to serve via a CO’2 dispense system.
- Appealing to Ale and Lager drinkers alike this is a clean, fresh, fruit and lightly hopped beer to be enjoyed on any occasion.
- Available in 11 gallon kegs
American Pride 5.2% ABV
- An American style IPA brewed with a combination of malts and special American hops
- A modern fresh drinkable craft beer with an abundance of blackcurrant and tropical fruit flavours and aromas
- Available in a 500ml bottle
Simcoe Kid 4.5% ABV
- Originally available in casks only
- light golden ale with a very intense citrusy bitterness from the 7C’s hops and an interesting fruit burst of aromas including passion fruit, lemon and grapefruit flavours from the Simcoe Hops
- Now available in a 500ml bottle, 12 bottles per case , 80 cases per pallet

Seasonal cask brews
At Maxim Brewery, our brewers have a deep respect for craft brewing but also like to perk up our permanent collection of cask beers with some innovative and ingenious brews, using the finest ingredients we can source.
Our seasonal brews are only available for a few weeks at a time and when they’re gone, they’re gone – you might have to wait a whole year before they come back! But for lovers of cask conditioned beer, they’re always worth the wait!
Our summer cask ales use special South Pacific hops or a combination of Willamette and Bramling Cross hops for a taste that will satisfy on a lazy hot day. In the winter months, our Great Escape cask ale gives a citrusy seasonal orange taste and floral aroma – a real favourite at Christmas.
